Application Process

Step 1. Complete the Online Application

There is no fee to submit a certification application. The Resilience-Building Leader Program is not a membership organization. Applicants for initial certification or recertification are not required to be members of any organization. Complete the online application below for RBLP, RBLP-C, and RBLP-T certification.

Step 2. Application Review

We will review your application within three (3) business days to verify that your leadership experience, education, training, and other professional certifications meet the requirements for certification. If we have questions about your application, we will contact you via email to resolve any issues.

U.S. Military Personnel: Once your application is approved, contact your Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) Program Office to secure funding for your certification exam. Air Force personnel may also be eligible to secure funding for exam prep coaching prior to taking the exam.

Step 3. Prepare for the Certification Exam

There are several exam prep options:

  • Purchase exam prep coaching from the Resilience-Building Leader Program. Coaching is conducted via one-hour video teleconference sessions and replicates the oral exam process. Using experiential learning techniques, the Certification Coaches on staff at the Resilience-Building Leader Program review each applicable competency domain with you in detail to ensure that you are well-prepared for the oral certification exam.
  • Coordinate exam prep coaching from a friend or colleague that has successfully passed an RBLP certification exam. Current credential holders can earn credits toward re-certification for providing exam prep coaching to other applicants.
  • Self-study by conducting research and reading about topics in the applicable competency domains. Start by reviewing the free exam prep courses in the learning section of this website. The Resilience-Building Leader Program does not require applicants to purchase any specific training as a requirement of the certification process.

Certification Exams. Passing an oral examination is required for each certification. Our certification exams measure standards of competence needed for effective performance in one or more specified domains.

We utilize oral certification exams because developing cohesion, creating positive climate, providing purpose, facilitating team learning, and leading organizational learning require application skills that can be tested more effectively by oral exam than by written examination. The advantages of an oral exam include:

  • Provides an opportunity to tailor questions specific to the examinee’s experience and current situation.
  • Provides an opportunity to assess the examinee’s use of competency domain skills and knowledge to apply, analyze, and evaluate in specific situations.
  • Provides flexibility to move from one topic to another as required.
  • Provides an opportunity to probe the depth and breadth of the examinee’s skills and knowledge.

We ensure that only the most reliable testing measures are used to assess certification candidates. Learn more about exam development.

Exam Confidentiality. The certification exams, scoring rubrics, scoring sheets, and all other testing or test-related materials remain the sole and exclusive property of the Resilience-Building Leader Program. These materials are confidential and are not available for review by any person or agency for any reason.
