The Resilience-Building Leader Program is a proud supporter of Attitudes & Attire, a nonprofit organization in Dallas, Texas dedicated to promoting personal growth in women seeking self-sufficiency.
This immensely valuable non-profit changes the lives of the women they serve by providing tools that raise self-esteem, promote ethics and build the confidence necessary to develop successful life skills. They offer three programs:
- Their Core Program which provides wardrobe and training for job-readiness and self-esteem.
- Hopeful Smiles, which restores the oral appearance of women affected by poverty.
- Boots to Heels, which helps transitioning service women as they enter the civilian workforce.
As of 2019, the group has 23 years of service under its belt and it serves approximately 1,300 women every year! It was founded in 1996 by Lyn Berman, whose initial vision was to build the self-esteem of women and provide professional attire. Some of the over 270 partners they work with on client referrals include JC Penney, PepsiCo and The Salvation Army. Their outfit has grown over the years through the help of countless volunteers, donors and sponsors and is operating stronger than ever today.
Here’s a fun and enlightening interview with founder and director Lyn Berman:
Attitudes & Attire hosts an annual fundraiser luncheon and fashion show to honor members of their community. This includes volunteers, clients and civil servants. It is an elegant celebration that is also a wonderful opportunity for the group to feature their first-hand success stories. At the February 2019 luncheon, client Josephine shared her testimonial:
“My personal integrity and tenacity were ignited as the staff made me feel like family instead of an unemployed homeless person. The Attitudes & Attire program took me from merely surviving to really living!”
