Welcome to Leading in Difficult Times & Circumstances, the sequel to 12 Months of Leadership Insights—our previously published compendium of insights and lessons on leading, motivating, and inspiring others, as drawn from the lives of 40 noteworthy historical and contemporary leadership figures.

As a result, we’ve decided to publish a sequel, examining 16 additional leaders specifically through the lens of leadership in difficult times. As with its predecessor, Leading in Difficult Times & Circumstances presents a broad array of leaders, including business executives such as Satya Nadella, Mark Cuban, and Mary Barra, civil rights heroes like Mary Church Terrell, as well as modern political leaders like Angela Markel, Scott Morrison, and Jacinda Ardern.

Our hope is that another eclectic collection of insights—tailored to our modern, uncertain, and increasingly chaotic world—will offer further perspective on the underlying principles of leadership amid crisis, allowing leaders of all kinds to enhance their ability to navigate challenges and rally organizations and followers behind a common cause.
